MEETING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING
Most African communities, including communities in Cameroon, are going
through a highly competitive shift of paradigms as touching sustainable
community development, in general, via individual and cooperate initiatives.
This is apparent in the areas of Agriculture, health/sanitation, marketing/income
generating micro projects, etc.
TNI, has as one of her Programmes, the Renewable Energy Technology initiative, purposed to help the rural community
have access to modern energy, especially in biogas production, so as to reduce
the unsustainable use of conventional sources, improve on health &
sanitation, agriculture, market, reduce environmental pollution and be able to
participate in various ways for the abatement of GHG emissions.
Biogas is gas that comes
from the process of transforming organic matters (waste) in a biogas reactor or
digester, in the absence of oxygen. In other words, it is the methanisation of
anaerobic digestion. Biogas is used for cooking, lighting, heating & as engine fuel.
Its by-products are used as manure and pesticide, respectively.
TRETech Institute’s mission is carrying
out more research work, offering training workshops and building the capacity
of individuals, especially youths and women, in biogas production, biogas
technology and bio-digester architecture as well as offering services to
interested users.
The achievement of this cost free and non- explosive gas brings
along, benefits on several aspects: Health,
Economy, Environment, Communal, and of course, Femininity/Gender and employment.
(Biogas as a renewable local source can meet the basic needs of rural
households in energy supply.)
TRETech Institute offers capacity building trainings in both rudimentary
and progressive domains as follows:
Course objective: By the end of this
training you shall have designed and produced an efficient mobile biogas plant
with, at least, a 30 litre plastic barrel.
B) Training of architects & engineers.
Course objective: By the end of this
training you shall have designed and constructed an efficient fixed biogas plant
(reactor or bio-digester)
HOW TRETech Institute WOULD ACHIEVE 11 OUT OF THE 17 SDGs THROUGH THIS RENEWABLE ENERGY-BIOGAS INITIATIVE (All rights reserved)
The advantages brought alongside the production of biogas in the aspects of agriculture, employment and gender/capacity building in biogas technology, will help persons become resourceful, industrious and productive and commercialize their products at good prices.
2) End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture
The bio-slurry, a biogas byproduct, is a rich manure, richer than aerobic compost and better than chemical fertilizer. It enriches the soil, improves crop yield and is feed for fish, as well. When biogas is dehydrated, pesticide is obtained, which is equally nutritive to reared animals and birds.
3) Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages
This eco-friendly gas does not release smoke; thus, abating cough and other respiratory problems, headache and eyes problems. The availability of biogas ensures timely preparation of food such that hot breakfast is eaten.
4) Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
The availability of biogas for lighting ensures that students study in the evenings without interruptions.
5) Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
Capacity building trainings practicums for women and girls in the production and uses of biogas and its byproducts will help women and girls be more useful to themselves, their families and communities and be self-reliant.
6) Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
The discharge of fecal matters and black water from toilets into rivers and streams is abated as these are now canalized for digestion in the biogas reactor and renewed to obtain water.
7) Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Access to modern energy is a major problem in rural expanses. The production and uses of biogas is a remedial solution to this plight.
8) Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all
Given that no work is as decent and productive as autonomous exertion, a well sensitized, well mobilized and motivationally equipped people in the production and uses of biogas will contribute to the economic growth of their community.
9) Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation
As research work grows in renewable energy and biogas in particular, individuals and corporate local bodies setting up biogas industries will greatly contribute to the promotion of sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation in renewable energy in general.

13) Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Taking urgent actions does not mean waiting on the government, but taking individual, communal as well as collective initiatives before the government funds at some point. TRETech Institute thinks that her initiative is a step that begins this journey.
14)
15) Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification and halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss
The abatement of conventional fuel sources and the production and use of biogas and bio-slurry that enriches the soil, is achieving this goal.
